EDUCATION TODAY

|
A
lot has changed in today’s educational system that can make it
difficult for even bright, highly motivated students to be
successful. Due to
financial crunches in a lot of school districts class sizes are
often far too large and teachers spread too thin to offer the
individual attention that students need, or to challenge students
who really want to learn.
Behavioral
problems in the classroom often cause distractions to students and
make it impossible for teachers to keep the discipline that is
necessary for learning to take place.
Students
who are motivated learners are often the victim of bullies who
tease them for being smart. Bright
students sometimes are even pressured by peers to not focus on
school work, but to be “like them” and not place importance on
learning.
Often
students will either not understand or misunderstand a certain
concept and will “fall behind” in an area where basics are
important to further learning.
This can cause your child to seem discouraged and
unmotivated and cause grades to drop.
Many
eager, bright students in the lower grades get used to being
“held back” instead of challenged until they lose that
excitement and eagerness and just fall into mediocrity.
When
Children don't learn they may lose that opportunity forever!
There
are some students that just don’t fit in to our educational
system today. They
often respond wonderfully to one-on-one learning where they are
able to ask all the questions they want and can learn a concept
fully before moving on. Sometimes
they just need a little nudge, or they may need to catch up on a
significant amount of learning.
If they are motivated to learn more, they can be guided
into their own research. That
is what I am offering here at

I have found through my own experience that a child’s writing
can look wonderful on a penmanship worksheet, but still be really
sloppy everywhere else! J
Children tend to take on their own style of writing and
either can’t or won’t change it.
** I will only teach health from a Christian perspective
If
you are concerned about your child’s PHYSICAL HEALTH and need
help in getting a regular exercise routine, or just want them to
learn how to use our beautiful outdoors to help keep physically
fit, I also offer an hour long program that includes basic
nutrition facts, warm ups, 40-45 minutes of physical activity
(walking, jogging, hiking, cross-country skiing#, snowshoeing#,
and biking#), and a cool down time.#
Children
must provide their own skis, snowshoes and bikes unless we have
extras that fit!
Rates
for tutoring range with grade level and subject but start for as
little as $20.00 dollars per hour. Visit my frequently
asked questions and my URL page for

Education and Teaching Credentials

|
I have an Associate Degree from
Gogebic
Community College
in Applied Business.
I have a Bachelors Degree from the University of
Wisconsin-Superior in Political Science and
History
I received my teacher certification in Broad Field Social
Studies from
Northland
College
in grades 6 through 12 in
Wisconsin
and grades 7 through 12 in
Michigan
.
I did my student
teaching at the Hurley Jr. High and High School
I substitute taught for 11 years mostly in the
Bessemer
School District
. I taught every grade
from pre-kindergarten through 12 grade (some classes such as upper
lever math, physics, and chemistry I monitored).
I have home
schooled my two sons for the past 4 years which
included grades 2 through 8 and freshman algebra.
(Including
Reading
, Spelling, Penmanship, Heritage Studies, Science, Math, English,
Vocabulary, Literature, and a variety of self-designed projects
including Phy ed , running a home-based business, and gardening.)
I have had the opportunity to see my own children excel with
one-on-one teaching. They
were able to learn difficult math concepts at their own pace so
that they really understood them.
They were able to study with their teacher (me) so they
felt confident taking tests. They
were able to ask questions freely so that they understood their
subject area and could learn more about those things they were
particularly interested in. Not
only do I have the experience needed for tutoring, but I have seen
it work!
